About

Welcome to my blog.                                            spirity

I have been studying and working with the Lenormand cards for almost a year and half. A superb book, “The Secrets of the Lenormand Oracle” was released in 2007, by Sylvie Steinbach. One of the only books written in English, it is a very detailed, thought provoking system, that  once mastered can give very precise readings on just about any subject. The author, has also created a support system for students in the creation of a virtual workshop at Aecletic Tarot, that will help students move beyond being a novice.

With diligence and practice, these cards can open up a new world of understanding. I have been a serious student of Tarot, most of my life, and have a great respect for them; but I have been blown away at the details and accuracy that the Lenormand cards can give in a reading!

Too many instances of direct hits reading for people that I have never met, have convinced me that this is probably the best oracle deck I’ve ever encountered.

I also have a love for the Playing Cards, the Sibilla, and the Kipper for the most part- with other decks grabbing my attention intermittently. I share my experiences of reading with these on my sister blog, The Card Lover.

I hadn’t planned on keeping two blogs! lol but the experience of writing about different draws and readings has helped me bond more intimately with the cards; and I’ve received alot of great feedback for opening up and sharing 🙂

Sometimes it’s hard to share about my personal life, and there have been times when I’ve needed to take a sabbatical when times were too tough- but I’m discovering that sharing helps focus my intent, and my understanding of the nuances of the cards.

I hope you will journey with me into the language of the Lenormand!

I would appreciate any insights you might have on some of my readings, as you might think of something that I’ve totally missed.

Thanks for visiting!

Hello SpiritSong,

I will drop by from time to time to drop some of my personal zest into your blog 😉

So pleased to see another blog on the Lenormand, it is time the cards get recognition for what they can really do if you know how to use them properly!

Blessings,

Lovely to see another blog for the lenormand and particularly Sylvies book and method.

I’m glad both you and Aristede have created blogs so I can visit and learn from you both.

That means I might have to create a blog too.

Thank you all for your kind words!
I’m still trying to navigate my way around in here 🙂

Aristede– You inspired me to even attempt this! lol
so thank you very much~

Phoenix – Yes! you should start one too! I’m hoping that others who get Sylvie’s book, and go through the virtual workshop at Aecletic Tarot will start blogs also!
Aristede’s one idea might start an avalanche!

and dear Sylvie– Your vision for the Lenormand will come true; I am certain. As more people discover the cards via your book, and your dedication to teaching others, I think the Lenormand cards will take their rightful place of honor in the English-speaking world.
You have opened up a magic box of Discovery for lovers of card reading everywhere.
Whatever we can do to further this quest, count me in!

Blessings to all of you~

I would appreciate very much another AE person with insights on these draws:)
I am so glad that I stopped being a lurker there, and started to participate, and doubly glad that Sylvie started her teaching thread there.

Very good and interesting site! I am planning to get a deck. When I do, will definitely come back often to learn. Can you recommend a deck for beginners as there are several versions?

Thanks,

Thank you very much Cris, glad you’re here!
Decks are a matter of preference, what you’re drawn to; but I would steer you away from decks that have little poems and meanings on them, as they are distracting, and can shut down your intuitive process- (unless you happen to have a deck in a foreign language that you can’t read–but I’d steer clear of them in the beginning). I use the Blue Owl Lenormand mainly; I have a link on the main page to a dealer who sells them, (Daniel). The French Cartomancy deck and Warhrsagekarten JeuDu destin (no. 194115) by Piatnik, are classic decks as well. I think these three are probably the best to start with.
Some of my friends love the Mystical Lenormand…I like the artwork alot, it’s colorful, but it’s a little more busy and doesn’t always have the numbers easily listed. I will eventually get it, but don’t recommend it as a first deck. Stay clear of poems, and you’ll be just fine!
Also, be sure to invest in Sylvie Steinbach’s book,
“The Secret’s of the Lenormand Oracle” (check out link on main page)- She is a fantastic teacher, who’s book, and her thread on Aecletic tarot forum, will have you understanding these wonderful cards no time 🙂

Your websites are wonderful on various levels!!! Clearly, your work is very meaningul for tarot enthusiasts and beginners.

Also, you’ve sparked my interest in learning about the Lenormand system. Thank you so much for sharing through your websites.

I have a few other questions. If you receive this message would you please e-mail me so I can send you a few quick questions? : )

Thank you very much.

I am intrigued by your various draws and card decks. Before there was an English book on the Lenormand cards I bought “Le Petit Lenormand” by Colette Silvestre which is in French. It’s fairly basic so I might try and get Silvie’s book.

I have 3 Lenormand decks plus the Tarot Lenormand, from which I can pick out 36 cards to use as comparison with my other Lenormand oracles. I see some nice decks here that I might try to hunt up.

Years ago I discussed Deborah Leigh’s “Personal Prophesy” book for playing cards with Phoenix I think. I have 50 playing card decks in my collection now. These odd systems can be very refreshing to use.

Rather unfortunately, Silvie’s book seems to be OOP. I saw a notice on ABE that the publisher will print on demand, but they want $18 plus $14 shipping to Canada. I find it tiresome when businesses in the States hold Canadians hostage for exorbitant shipping fees.

Ah well, I shall have to keep translating the other book as I have been doing with my high school French.

Hi Woley,
Sylvie’s book is still available – check this link on Amazon.com. I order alot of books through them as it’s quicker and better availability than Amazon.ca. Her book has been a really great resource that I return to again and again.
I envy your high school french! lol Growing up in the US I took Spanish, and now really want to learn French. There are quite a few french books that I want to order and translate- luckily I have two pretty good programs to help me when I do get to it!

You’ll find some of the decks pictured on my blog, but not all. I was able to obtain graphic images of a few that are OOP. I love artwork so am constantly on the search for different versions.

I have not looked into the Personal Prophecy method that Phoenix has worked with- I have pretty much settled on the works of Kapherus (see a link to his forum on the side panel), Regina Russell and Leo Martello. They work well together.
50 decks!!! LOL boy! am I jealous. I have started collecting decks as I travel, but am looking forward to buying some collectible decks that I like this year. Playing cards and reading them are a real love of mine- I sometimes post on my sister blog, The Card Lover, draws and readings with the playing cards.

Best wishes,
Spiritsong

Amazon shipping is $9 so slightly better. Thanks for letting me know.

I have found Italian much easier than to translate than French–I translate some Italian I Ching cards and another tarot book in Italian.

I once was on the Kapherus forum but they use a different method than the Deborah Leigh one and I just want one method. Some people are really into it and know several methods but it was overload to me.

I discovered Somerville’s Playing Card Sales and that’s where I got most of my playing cards. He’s got all kinds of interesting European and facsimile cards. I also made a couple decks of my own.

If you’re interested there is software. You are supposed to use their special printed sheets but they are perforated and won’t go through my HP printer. I do a little workaround and make my own by preparing the images in Photoshop. and then I use the border feature in the program to get a line for trimming.
http://plaincards.com/

OMG don’t get me going on playing cards, I’ll never shut up. I think I have a few older draws on my blog, but this is a recent one showing the latest deck I did with Dover clip art engravings. I was using furniture and other household items.
http://woley.wordpress.com/2009/05/22/in-the-reeds/

Here’s the other one (from my other blog–once you start a blog you have to have two apparently.)
http://jjbks.wordpress.com/2008/12/01/dutch-tile-playing-cards/

You might like to fiddle with that card program. It has the facility to do tarot cards too so there’s no reason you couldn’t do a Lenormand deck and just use 36 card spaces and then print.

Hi Woley 🙂

Thanks so much for sharing links to your creations, they’re wonderful! You had me itching to get back to designing something. I’m involved with a group project on Kapherus’ forum to design our own deck. I’ve made a Jack of Diamonds card and posted it, but still have to make a King of Spades card and just haven’t had time to play.
I absolutely love how you used the tile patterns – very pretty

A program that I’ve used and had great luck with is a freeware program that I found. A member of Aecletic Tarot made it and designs her own decks. She has a wonderful tutorial on making cards as well.
Here’s the link:
http://www.draagonstorm.com/

I’ve used the program also just to print out decks I obtained digitally and wasn’t sure I wanted to buy without trying first:) lol ie – kipper and sibilla decks
That was alot of fun, and then I had to make card boxes for them as well, of course.

I’ll post a link in my sidebar to your blogs 🙂

hugs,
Spiritsong

Oh thanks for posting a link to me. Draagonstorm–didn’t she do the Spirograph Tarot? I have that–I traded for it. Oops, sorry, the Spirotarot. I see she glue two pieces of cardstock together for her boxes–I am just using regular cardstock which tends to rip if dropped (like when you’re coming down the stairs with 10 decks to play with.)

I have decided just to print my Lenormand card files directly from Photoshop as I’m putting the numbers on in there rather than in the QuickCards software and I’m not putting a back pattern on them. I’ve got a few done which I put on my Photon Stimulas blog. Some of those pictures are hard to scrounge up in public domain clip art. If I was better in Illustrator I could draw a coffin or a scythe myself.

Oh yes, I make card boxes for mine too, and bags, and handmade sewn journals, and I buy action figures and whatever springs to mind. A deck is no fun unless is has accessories. Somewhere on my blog is about my Towers Art Journal where I am studying Tower cards in a handmade book.

My total card collection comes to 325. They all clamour for accessories and pertinent doodads. I will most definitely make a box for this Lenormand deck I’m making.

Too many delights!

Thank goodness for translators!!

Hello Chantal ,
Of course I’d enjoy talking with you! Hopefully the translations will be understandable.
I am surprised that Sylvie didn’t also publish her book in French, as well as English. I have looked at other meanings, but have found her method works really well for me. It just “clicked”.

I am a member of Moony’s forum – I’ve only posted a few times because I was worried about being understood. I like to read the Grand Lenormand and the Gyspy card posts.

Like you, I want to learn more about certain oracles that do not have books written about them in English. I intend to buy a few of them and tediously translate them. I know it will be worth the effort!

Oh! which 2 books do you have on the Grand? do you like them?

Best wishes,

Spiritsong

Bonjour Chantal,

Dear SpiritSong

I have a question about the Moon . Why “”” the moon -creative field/advertising””””
We are discussing now in Russian forum the spread given by Silvia St. in Aecletic forum….

That’s the page of our discussion. It’s in English.

http://tarot.my1.ru/forum/11-185-88864-16-1267730315

“12-birds + 27-letter + 25-ring show the birds being communication with papers/documents. The RING can reinforce the idea of contracts and also the idea of sales. Birds and letter could be media if we had the moon -creative field/advertising.We do not have it here so it is a judgement (спорно сказать)call to say it will be in the media. ”

Reading this post, Sylvie was saying that if the Moon card had been there, and if you combined it’s meaning with the 12Birds + 27Letter, you could interpret the combination as describing a creative media type of work – such as advertising.
Moon represents the arts, creativity etc. She would have expected to see the Moon card there if the answer to the question was to suggest that the next job was in that type of work.

Remember, what kind of meanings that you derive from the cards, depends alot on the type of question that you are asking.
In the sample reading, it was asking about what kind of job, correct? so you are looking for the aspects of those cards that might describe different jobs.

I don’t remember the lesson, it’s been quite awhile since I looked over threads. I presume that someone jumped to the guess that the next job might be in the media, but Sylvie is saying you’d really want to see the creativity aspect of the Moon card there, to come to that conclusion.
So, the 3 cards, birds-letter-ring, is more ‘dry’, describing a sales job.

I hope that helps a little?? lol

Best Wishes,

*Ensuite LIRE LA CARTE n°2: ON LIRA LE PETIT SUJET DE DROITE DE CETTE CARTE.

Chantal

Hello, for cards(maps) big Lenormand, the edition in cross is this:
Ask your question emotional, or work, or material(equipment) (money)((silver)).
.METTRE YOUR CARD(MAP) (woman or man) IN THE MIDDLE OF the EDITION.
.ENSUITE TO TAKE(BRING) OUT 4 CARDS(MAPS) WHICH YOU WILL ARRANGE IN CROSS +) AROUND THE CARD(MAP) REPRESENTING YOU woman or man)
As this:
N 1) the premiére will be at the top,
N°2) the deuxiéme will be to the left,
N°3) the troisiéme will be to the right,
N 4) the quatriéme will be below.

* It is necessary to read in the first one the card(map) N°1: WE SHALL READ THE CENTRAL SUBJECT of this card(map).
*Ensuite READ THE CARD(MAP) n°2: WE SHALL READ THE SMALL RIGHT SUBJECT OF THIS CARD(MAP).
* Then, we shall read the card(map) N°3: WE SHALL READ THE SMALL LEFT SUBJECT OF THIS CARD(MAP).
*Ensuite, we shall read the card(map) N°4 which ends: WE SHALL READ THE CENTRAL SUBJECT.

EXAMPLE: question on an emotional concern(preoccupation).

Card(Map) 1 (we place her(it) at the top) read the big subject: ACE OF HEARTS: the consultant in a trés big sensibility, and it is trés attached to the emotional relations.
Card(Map) N°2 (we place her(it) to the left): 2 of the spade(pike, lance) (read the small right subject): his(her, its) love life is marked with conflicts.
Card(Map) N 3 (we place her(it) to the right): 5 of the heart: (read the small left subject): his(her, its) life sentimental is marked with sacrifices.
The card(map) N°4 (below and it is the derniére): 9 of the spade(pike, lance): (read the central subject): 9 spade(pike, lance) = (the fears of héléne) announces him(her) that its relation is not going to improve and that it is going to suffer from it morally.
When I says: to read the central subject, it means that it is necessary to read the central subject here example:
*pour the ace of hearts represente: union family (in big subject).
* For 2 of the spade ( the small right subject) wants to say(means): conflicts.
* For 5 of the heart ( small left subject) emotional life wants dire:soumission and of sacrifice, remains heavy etrésignée.
* For 4 map 9 falls (finalize) to read subject central:inquiétudes and frighten améne sadness and sorrow.

Here we are, it is not easy to explain, but it is necessary to begin slowly. This is for the game(set, play) big Lenormand. Chantal

What a wonderful spread Chantall, and thank you so much for the reading example! I am fascinated – I haven’t seen this spread before in my reading of the forums. Very useful, and I liked the way you interpreted the different pieces.
I so hope that I am able to order a few books soon, and get started in my studies in earnest. Is this spread featured in the book that you recommended?

I am sorry that it took me days to respond. There have been some pressing family matters to deal with. My husband has been ill this week, and he’s not a good patient!! lol

I am trying to figure out how I might move this discussion to it’s own page eventually.

hugs,
Spiritsong
